South Moravia is a picturesque region with rich archaeological and historical heritage and still living folklore traditions. Brno is the historical centre of the region and the second largest city in Czech Republic. The main icons of this trip are the Gravettien finds from Dolní Věstonice and early medieval proto-urban sites of the Great Moravian Empire. The participants will also enjoy the wine tasting in one of the famous folklore wine cellars.

Tuesday 3 September
  • Dolní Věstonice – the Gravettien “ Mammoth hunters” site
  • Mikulčice – Great Moravian fortified site with ecclesial architecture of 8th/9th Century AD
  • Kopčany – Slovak counterpart of Mikulčice with uniquely preserved still standing 9th Century church of St. Margaret of Antioch
  • Nechory, Prušánky wine tasting social evening
  • Accommodation in the Eco-friendly passive hotel at Nechory
Wednesday 4 September
  • Uherské Hradiště – Staré Město: The second largest centre of the Great Moravian Empire
  • Great Moravian Open air museum at Modrá with early medieval lunch and entertainment
  • Return to Pilsen
